Description
In the past decade a large amount of unexpected states have been discovered in the charmonium and bottomonium spectra. These states are candidates for nontraditional hadronic states including four quarks or gluonic excitations as constituents. In the latter case the states are usually referred as quarkonium or heavy hybrids. In this talk I elaborate on an effective field theory approach to describe heavy hybrids that takes inspiration from the Born-Oppenheimer approximation. Together with input from lattice QCD we computed the heavy hybrid spectra including spin-dependent contributions. In the outlook I will discuss the perspectives for the extension of this framework to tetraquark states and other hadrons composed of heavy quarks and gluonic and light-quark degrees of freedom.
