The High Energy cosmic-Radiation Detection (HERD) facility will be operated on China's Space Station (CSS) for about 10 years starting from 2027. The main goals of HERD are: indirect dark matter search with unprecedented sensitivity; precise cosmic ray spectrum and composition measurements up to the “knee” energy; gamma-ray monitoring and full sky survey. This talk will focus on the procedures to optimize the gamma-ray performance of HERD. The design of HERD gamma-ray trigger system, instrumental specification and performance will be discussed.
