The IFAE Summer Fellowship Programme offers undergraduate students the possibility of spending the summer as a physics researcher. The program has been running for 8 years now.
In this seminar, 3 students will report on their work done in this one-month stay.
Nina Righelato and Òscar Losada, UAB Students
During our stay we have seen an overview about how galaxies are studied in the research field. First, we studied how galaxies are seen from telescopes and what are the causes of the distortion observed. Simulations of galaxies and a dark matter halo have been realized to see how dark matter adds shear to our observations and why this can be a strong tool to infer the dark matter distribution in the universe. Second, we trained a machine learning tool widely known in the field using as an input galaxy fluxes from an extensive database. Letting us understand how useful this tool is to deal with the research challenges in the field.
