In this talk, we review the status of the Ultraviolet Near Infrared Optical Northern Survey (UNIONS), focused on weak lensing. This multi-band optical survey was obtained from 3 Hawaiian telescopes and will provide coverage in the ugriz-bands for Euclid. We present work relative to the validation of the shape catalog with regard to various systematics, focusing on PSF model errors. We also discuss the process of realistic image simulations, which are necessary for the validation and calibration of the shear bias. Finally, we present first results obtained for direct measurements of intrinsic alignment, making use of the large and unique overlap of UNIONS with the BOSS/eBOSS spectroscopic surveys.
