Description
IFAE is heavily invested in the development of Large Size Telescopes (LSTs) for the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA). The LSTs will image Cherenkov light emitted by extensive air showers resulting from gamma rays with energies as low as 20 GeV. This low energy threshold will allow for good overlap with orbital observatories such as Fermi with unprecedented sensitivity and should yield new insight into gamma-ray bursts, high redshift active galactic nuclei, and gamma-ray pulsars. In this talk I will review the physics motivations for including LST in CTA and I will discuss the design of the camera and how it is optimized to achieve the lowest possible energy threshold.
