Kick off EMOTIONAL: Wellbeing in High-Pressure Research
C7b/058 - Seminar
IFAE Main Building C7b
Why attend?
When scrutiny is constant, we often subconsciously narrow our thinking or hide uncertainty to avoid judgment. The cost of this isn't just personal stress—it’s reduced learning and preventable mistakes.
This session is not about "staying positive." It is about the functional capacity to work clearly through difficulty. Using frameworks like Carol Ryff’s Model of Psychological Wellbeing, we will discuss:
-
Normalizing the System: Understanding why self-criticism and loss of focus are standard cognitive responses to evaluation, not personal weaknesses.
-
The Skillset of Resilience: How emotional regulation and communication under pressure can be trained, much like any other technical methodology.
-
Proactive Maintenance: Reframing psychological support as a tool for high performance rather than a last-resort intervention.
