 ray of particles at the Large Hadron Collider is one of the most significa
 nt data-processing challenges in modern physics. This talk details the mul
 ti-stage process of electron reconstruction in the ATLAS experiment. We wi
 ll discuss the fundamental physics of how electrons interact with the dete
 ctor’s layers and how these signals are combined into a Likelihood-based
  identification score. A central focus will be the Tag and Probe technique
 \, an elegant statistical method that allows to measure detector performan
 ce using real data rather than relying solely on simulations. We will conc
 lude with a look at the future\, discussing how Deep Neural Networks (DNNs
 ) are being trained on low-level calorimeter data to push identification l
