DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Pablo Correa (LPNHE)\n\nLuminous and ultra-luminous
infrared galaxies (LIRGs and ULIRGs) host some of the most extreme star-fo
rming environments in the Universe. Typically associated with galaxy inter
actions and efficient gas inflows\, these systems concentrate large amount
s of gas in their central regions\, powering intense starbursts and\, in m
any cases\, deeply embedded active galactic nuclei (AGN). Both components
provide extreme environments for cosmic-ray acceleration and the subsequen
t production of high-energy neutrinos and gamma rays. In this talk\, I wil
l explore U/LIRGs from a multimessenger perspective and argue that neutrin
os and gamma rays provide complementary probes of their high-energy activi
ty. Starting with neutrinos\, I will discuss IceCube studies targeting U/L
IRGs\, and the evidence linking neutrino observations to their AGN compone
nt. I will then turn to gamma rays\, discussing what current observations
have revealed about starburst activity in these systems and the limitation
s of existing measurements. Finally\, I will discuss the prospects for obs
erving U/LIRGs at very-high gamma-ray energies with the Cherenkov Telescop
e Array Observatory (CTAO)\, and how future observations could open a new
window onto the high-energy processes in these extreme star-forming system
