Search for anomalous events in CTAO-LST1 observations
Andrea Guerrero - (Gamma Ray group)
LST-1 is the first operational Large-Sized Telescope of the Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO), designed to perform ground-based gamma-ray astronomy by capturing the brief flashes of Cherenkov light generated when very-high-energy photons interact with the Earth's atmosphere. It has been working since 2019, however, could the observations be affected by the recording of undesired events? No previous study on the search for anomalies had been carried out with LST-1. We developed an anomaly detection pipeline, as well as a satellite identification tool to identify and characterize such events. By characterizing every observed anomaly, we leave room for the discovery of unidentified phenomena.
Mapping the young Universe
Joan Doria - (Observational Cosmology group)
The evolution of the Universe is still not fully understood, particularly during its early stages when the first large-scale structures were forming. Studying the distribution of matter at high redshift provides valuable information about the growth of cosmic structure and the underlying cosmological model. To study it, we have analyzed two complementary probes of this distant matter distribution: CMB gravitational lensing and the Lyman-Alpha forest from distant quasars. For this purpose, we have used CoLoRe simulations which provide a CMB lensing map as well as Lyman Alpha forest fluctuations. This allows us to validate the analysis in a controlled environment. These results provide a basis for future joint analyses of these two probes.
