Description

Since its launch in 2008, the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope has revolutionized our understanding of the high-energy Universe. Thanks to the complementary capabilities of its two instruments, the Large Area Telescope (LAT) and the Gamma-ray Burst Monitor (GBM), Fermi has provided an unprecedented view of the dynamic and transient gamma-ray sky.
In this talk, I will highlight some of the most significant discoveries from nearly 18 years of observations, with a particular focus on Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs), among the most powerful explosions in the Universe. From the detection and characterization of exceptional events such as GRB 221009A to the search for electromagnetic counterparts of gravitational-wave events and high-energy neutrinos, Fermi continues to play a key role in multimessenger astrophysics.
I will also discuss how ongoing observations and synergies with current and future facilities are opening new perspectives for understanding the physics of GRBs and other extreme cosmic transients.
