Description
Photon Counting Pixel sensor allows the possibility to acquire spectroscopic imaging, something is not possible to achieve with Integrating pixel sensor (CCD type). The market share for spectroscopic Imaging is growing specially
in the field of security (airport scanner), quality control (food and material), and the next generation of Computed Tomography (CT) scanners since it it allow the detection of minute difference in densities in the scanned object. All these applications demand smaller the pixel size (for better spatial resolution) and good detection efficiency (means thicker detector). These two requirements make it impossible for Photon Counting sensor to achieve spectroscopic imaging without employing charge summation algorithm. I will elaborate on the algorithm that has been developed at IFAE (currently patent pending) and compare it to the one of used in MPX3.
