Description
Even if theoretically discovered long ago, the dilaton, the pseudo-Goldstone boson of spontaneous breaking of scale invariance, is still subject of active investigations. These not only concern theoretical developments, such as new realizations based on the AdS/CFT correspondence, but also phenomenological applications. In this talk I will first review the effective theory for the spontaneous breaking of scaling symmetry, next I will present a warped extra-dimensional model with all the expected features, and finally I will discuss two of the potential manifestations of the dilaton in Nature: in cosmological phase transitions and in the context of a inflationary universe.
