The WIMP paradigm constitute a natural possibility to explain the observed dark matter in the Universe. However, in spite of its rich phenomenological possibilities, no conclusive experimental hints for WIMPs have been observed so far. This motivates to look beyond the WIMP framework and to consider other alternatives. After a brief review of the status of WIMPs, my plan is to show in some detail the potential of FIMP dark matter, focusing on its still poorly developed phenomenology.
