Description
Despite the discovery of the Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson in 2012 that tends to confirm the validity of the theory, the hunt for new particles has become crucial at the beginning of LHC Run 2. These searches make use of specific analysis techniques to estimate the backgrounds, assess the existence of a signal ... or its absence. In this talk, I will give an overview of some recent ATLAS results based on the Run 2 data and give an overview of typical techniques with a particular emphasis on the statistical treatments and background estimation.
