The IFAE Neutrino group is an active member of the neutrino oscillation experiment T2K since many years.
One key element of this experiment is the near detector (ND) which allows to measure the cross sections of neutral and charged current processes with a neutrino in the initial and a lepton in the final state as also the purity of the muon neutrino beam.
The IFAE group participated in the R&D for the current near detector, the construction of the detector and since 2008 in the data analysis leading to various IFAE Master and PhD theses.
For 2021/2022 an upgrade for the near detector complex is foreseen. While the original detector was optimized for muons leaving the detector towards the forward region, the upgraded detector will allow to expand the phase space also to high angle tracks.
In the presentation the overall detector concept will be shortly presented before the focus will be laid on the IFAE contribution to the upgrade.
