Description

ESA's Euclid mission is scheduled for launch in 2022.
The telescope will map the history of the large scale structure of the Universe by observing billions of galaxies in order to better understand the nature of dark matter, and also the unknown dark energy that, in principle, drives the accelerating expansion of the Universe.
In order to be ready for the huge amount of output data, different Euclid teams have created the largest simulated galaxy catalog ever produced: the Euclid Flagship mock galaxy catalog. The simulation reproduces with high accuracy both the shear pattern and the galaxy clustering down to small scales. Also, the simulation mimics complex properties that real sources exhibit, such as their shapes, colours, and luminosities.
The simulation is fundamental to be best prepared for the mission in terms of data processing, science analysis software, and finally to evaluate its performance.
During this talk, I will summarize the whole process of generating the Euclid Flagship mock galaxy catalogue.
